Comments from Students Evaluations (Fall 2004)

Math 231 (Linear Algebra) Fall 04 (26 students)

  1. The instructor is very well prepared and has a strong knowledge of the material. He tries to keep things upbeat but at times comes across as a hard ass and rude. I would take another course with him because he explains everything thoroughly.
  2. There were some problems in the beginning but Iyad worked hard to correct them. He definitely cares how we do and what we think.
  3. The course was way too in-depth, tests were very long, not enough time to get things done at all, very difficult.
  4. Fun course, more interesting than others I've taken. I'm glad the situation earlier in the year didn't affect your teaching style. My favorite teacher possibly ever. A kind, honest, good-natured person. I would take another class from this professor if possible.
  5. Course was fairly easy. The material was not difficult to understand to apply. Dr. Abu-Jeib was very enthusiastic about teaching. Also, he gave many good examples and thoroughly explained how to do the problems. He also gave us many opportunities to improve our grades, so long as we put in a little effort.
  6. Course was very challenging. Instructor was very concerned with the success of students.
  7. The course was challenging and covered a lot of material, but was good overall! He was a great professor and very interested in helping us out. I would take another course with him. Good teaching style.
  8. Related very well to the students and you could tell he really enjoyed teaching.
  9. I would take another class with him because he made the class interesting and tried hard to simplify for the students and make everything easier for us.
  10. The course was good. He is an excellent teacher. He explains things in detail and gives great examples. He is one of the best teachers I have had. The only thing he needs is more confidence in himself.
  11. This course was challenging for me. There was a lot of material and a lot to try to remember. I have learned a great deal in this course. This instructor loves his students. He cares so much about the progress of his students. He is a great teacher and you can tell he really enjoys it. He always tries to help everyone better their grades and their understanding.
  12. Yes I would take another course from him. He cared a lot about his students and their opinions.
  13. Dr. Abu-Jeib cares very much for the success of his students. He is very respectful and outgoing - always asking for students input on how to improve the course.
  14. He did not just stay there lecturing; made class interesting. Thorough knowledge but joked too much.
  15. There is a lot of material to be covered in this course. The instructor provided many opportunities to raise our grades and many opportunities to practice the material. Dr. Abu-Jeib is very friendly and knowledgeable. I would take another course from him because his grading is fair and I learned a lot in this course.
  16. The instructor was always available to get help and he cared about your grades. Without outside help form this teacher I wouldn't performed as well. Dr. Abu-Jeib is the best math professor I had at Fredonia.
  17. Instructor has genuine concern for students to do well and cover material accordingly. Yes I would take another course from him. He is one of the few teachers in math who does not act …
  18. This course was extremely challenging and I thought this course was going to deal with linear algebra topics and not much with just matrices. I think this course could be more broad with topic range. He was always very enthusiastic about teaching this course. He was very fair with grading and he genuinely cared about students progress in class.
  19. We did use the book at all. In my opinion it should only be recommended and not required. I would take a course from him if it was a computer science course. He is great at teaching them.

CSIT 121 (Computer Science I) Fall 04 (9 students)

  1. A good and challenging course. The instructor provided good handouts and online resources. The labs were especially helpful for understanding the material. Iyad provided a good learning environment. He was very knowledgeable and provided very useful handouts. He seemed to genuinely care about the progress of every student. He was my favorite professor this semester and I would definitely recommend him to everyone.
  2. Very good knowledge on material.
  3. Yes I would take another course from him because he always wants to help the student understand the material. Very good instructor.
  4. The assignments were very helpful in learning the material and the course content was interesting. He was always willing to help the students. He was easy to understand and overall an excellent teacher. I'm taking another course from him and am looking forward to it. He made it clear that he cares about the students.
  5. I didn't like the book much as it wasn't very much help with the assignments. It would have been better if perhaps the course was more concentrated on following the book or if we had used a different book. I didn't expect to like this class/instructor in the beginning of the semester. Now I feel I can learn easily from him and I would take another class from him in the future.
  6. I think the course only needed a new laptop or every teacher must have a separate their own laptop besides CS students must have bigger and better classes and I don't find the book easy to understand but our teacher always tried his best to supply us the best conditions. Other than these everything was pretty well. He helped me a lot and he encouraged me a lot that I can do well in this course and I can be well in other CS courses. I'm seriously going to take his classes because he is a perfect teacher, that knows so much about CS. I think sometimes students understand him wrongly because he wants the best for us also he is so kind. Shortly he is perfect.
  7. In this course, it was clearly stated that practicing the material is a must. The accessibility for obtaining the C++ program was easily accomplished. The care displayed by the teacher for his students was immaculate. His grading policies were fair and we were always able to negotiate our quiz and test dates. The strength of the professor would be that he tries his best to make sure everyone understands the material. A weakness may be that he compares us to other classes as becomes slow. Yes I would take another class from him because I feel he is very fair and an excellent teacher.
  8. I feel I have actually learned something from this course. The instructor was very enthusiastic about the material which made class more entertaining. The most important points to bring up about the professor, however, are his care for the students, desire for them to do well, and his amiable nature. I would definitely take another course offered by the instructor!

  1. Outside of class help. He sat down with me outside of office hours. Helped me understand in a one on one setting. He was the website to greatly increase the available material.
  2. Lots of material but goo job covering it all with appropriate time spent on each subject. Yes, I would take another class from him. I felt like I really learned a lot in this class and I view that as the best thing that a professor can do. To do it and be friendly and personable is great!
  3. Iyad is a great instructor considering the fact that I didn't mind going to a discrete math course four days a week. He has a way of getting information out and making it fun to be in class. I could take discrete math II from him.
  4. I would take another course from him. He is a very knowledgeable professor who cares about his students. Each student gets the grade deserved, but he is willing to help outside of class as much as is necessary.
  5. Iyad is one of the best professors I've ever had!
